All camping and patrol policies and information can be found on this page.

Troop 179 Policies

It is the scout’s responsibility to:

- Bring their book to ALL events and mess kit camping with them unless told otherwise.

- The scout is responsible for filling in ALL camping, community service, and merit badge / rank information in their books....Parents shouldn't be filling them in or checking off anything. The leaders will work with scouts to show them how to fill that out.

NOTE: No leader should complete anything for their son.  If a scout needs assistance they should speak to another leader.

- Complete a Merit Badge Blue cards after they speak to a leader about the merit badge they want to take...remember a scoutmaster has to sign them for the scouts. Lastly please make sure the blue cards don't get lost since they aren't recorded until they are turned back into the troop / Advancement Chair.

- Sign in at each event unless told otherwise. This helps us with keeping track of what they attended, and making sure they get credit for completing requirements of the attendance award.

- When going camping the scouts need to pack their bags. They are the ones needing to know what is in them, and the one that could be hiking a mile or more in/out of the campsite while lugging all their other gear. Parents should assist them with the list but not pack for them.

- Schedule with the leaders their rank Scoutmaster conferences and Board of reviews. Note: Scoutmaster conferences are held the 1st & 3rd weeks of the month. With Board of Reviews being scheduled via a red / white marble notebook to help keep track on the 2nd & 4th weeks. If there is a change the scouts are reminded frequently during meetings.

Special Note:

- Parents need to come into the school to pickup their scouts at the end of the meetings. NO MORE will scouts just be running out at 9pm, they will be cleaning up before leaving the meetings.

- While electronic devices including cell phones are prohibited from unit events. When the troop camps off Long Island the scouts can bring their phone for EMERGENCY USE ONLY. Any use other than an emergency and the device will be collected by one of the adult leaders.

NOTE: At times scout leaders may let scouts use an electronic device to help demonstrate / teach something scouting related.

- While things get broken from time to time, if something is damaged from improper / misused the scout will be expected to pay for the item. Regardless if the item is the troops or another scouts!

- If there are behavior issues with a scout on a trip the parents could receive a call to come pick the scout up. If this happens the unit won't refund the cost of the trip.

- Given certain behavior issues a scout and their parents would be spoken to about taking sometime off from camping trips and/or other troop events.

Note: Please remember we use email, and our troop website as our main channels for communicating with you. Please remember to check them regularly for updates.
